En analysant les transformations des pratiques \u00e9ducatives, en retra\u00e7ant les \u00e9volutions des l\u00e9gislations sur l\u2019enfance et en empruntant les outils de la sociologie pour souligner les rapports de classe et de genre qui structurent la maternelle, l\u2019autrice fait le r\u00e9cit d\u2019une institution prise en tenaille entre ses missions d\u00e9mocratiques et son r\u00f4le dans la hi\u00e9rarchisation et la diff\u00e9renciation sociale.<br>L\u2019autrice s\u2019int\u00e9resse en particulier au r\u00f4le primordial des femmes et de celleux que l\u2019histoire a oubli\u00e9. Elle livre une contribution essentielle pour comprendre l\u2019\u00e9cole d\u2019hier et transformer celle d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fabienne Montmasson-Michel est sociologue \u00e0
